Hi, I am Gianluigi. Nice to spoon you.

Early career

My journey started at 19, when I moved to London a place that taught me more than language and culture.

Working in hospitality, I became fluent in English and discovered an early curiosity for how systems and workflows shape human interaction both offline and online.

That curiosity turned into purpose during my Digital Marketing degree at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), where I learned how people connect with brands and technology. Over time, I shifted from marketing to product design, combining strategy and empathy to solve real user problems.

Before becoming a Product Designer, I started in graphic design, mastering visual hierarchy, color theory, and storytelling. My curiosity for the digital world led me to web and digital design, translating visual creativity into interactive experiences.

I earned a diploma in UX, UI, and Web Design at LabFor Web Rome, gaining hands-on experience in user experience, interface design, and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to create accessible, functional, and visually engaging digital interfaces.

Coffee Spoons

From January 2021 to December 2021, I worked as a UX Design Consultant, collaborating with private clients and digital agencies.

This self-employed experience allowed me to apply my skills in user research, interface design, accessibility, as well as budget and project management, tackling a variety of projects across B2B industries and platforms.

During this period, I realized the importance of a cohesive design philosophy that combines usability, aesthetics, and human-centered thinking. This insight became the foundation for Coffee Spoons, my personal brand and design approach.

The name reflects my belief that every design should leave a trace, like the coffee stains that linger after a meaningful conversation — creating intuitive, inclusive, and meaningful digital experiences that resonate with people.

What I do

Today, I work as a Senior Product Designer at HCLTech, where I focus on designing accessible and inclusive user interfaces that meet WCAG standards.

I collaborate closely with engineers, researchers, and product managers on the BigFix product, currently working on a SaaS project that enhances the cloud-based user experience and improves product scalability.

I am also involved in the architecture and development of the design system, building a scalable foundation that promotes consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across products.

My work continues to be guided by the same principles that shaped Coffee Spoons — clarity, empathy, and accessibility in every design decision.
